Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields had to leave the Sunday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys for a brief moment. Although all appeared to be good with the quarterback, he needed to get checked for a concussion after taking a hit to the head.

The hit happened in the first drive of the third quarter when Tyrus Wheat knocked the quarterback as he threw a pass. A roughing the passer was called and Kyle Allen entered the game for two snaps. However, after the check was over, Fields was allowed to return to the game.

One good news about the hit is that, even though the quarterback got hit in the head, he fell to the ground with his back first, meaning that there was no other hard hit that could lead to a bigger concussion. The check was precautionary and all was fine.

He finished the drive with a touchdown pass. Pittsburgh was losing the game 6-3 at halftime, but his pass to Conner Heyward took the score to 10-6. Funny enough, he seemed to play much better after the concussion check.

Why is Justin Fields playing instead of Russell Wilson?

Russell Wilson suffered a calf injury right before the start of the season and Justin Fields is the one who's playing for them, and while he hasn't been perfect, there's no doubt about the results. Pittsburgh, once considered the worst team in the division, entered Sunday Night Football with a 3-1 record and the AFC North lead.

It's unclear how Wilson's injury is going, especially as he was deemed the third quarterback. Head coach Mike Tomlin declared that he would make a decision whenever the veteran was available, but at this point, it's unlikely that he'll sanction a change based on the team's positive record.

Wilson's calf injury is already a big problem when you look at what he's already missing compared to his peak. Fields is making the most out of his new opportunity with the Steelers even though his play isn't excellent. Winning is the only thing that matters for Tomlin.
