Damar Hamlin has been in the thoughts and prayers of the entire NFL world ever since he suffered a horrifying injury on Monday night in Week 17 against the Cincinnati Bengals. He has made miraculous progress in his recovery while staying at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center this week. However, he still has a long journey ahead of him.

Many teams and players around the league paid tribute to Damar Hamlin on Sunday morning prior to the start of Week 18. Most notably, his team, the Buffalo Bills, held a special tribute ceremony prior to the start of their game against the New England Patriots.

Many of the Bills players were ready to dedicate their performances against the Patriots to Damar Hamlin as he watched on from his hospital bed.

It didn't take long for something incredible to happen in the game. Nyheim Hines fielded the opening kickoff and returned it 96 yards for a Bills touchdown.

Some called it a miracle, while others referred to it as an amazing coincidence, given all the circumstances. It almost felt like something right out of a feel-good sports movie.

Some NFL fans had a much different opinion of the play. Rather than seeing it as something similar to a scene in a movie, some fans believe it was a scripted play. Here are some of the top comments from NFL fans having this opinion on Twitter.

Did the Patriots allow the Bills to score on the first play of the game to honor Damar Hamlin?

While some fans around the NFL believe Nyheim Hines' kickoff return for a touchdown was scripted or fixed, it's highly unlikely that's the case. There has been no indication, at least not yet, that the integrity of the game was sacrificed in any way.

The New England Patriots entered Week 18 in basically a must-win situation against the Buffalo Bills. A victory would punch their ticket into the NFL playoffs, clinching the seventh seed in the AFC. A loss would open the door for either the Miami Dolphins or Pittsburgh Steelers to potentially steal their spot. If all three lose, the Patriots will still sneak their way in.

While nothing is impossible, this further decreases the likelihood that the Patriots will allow the Bills to score a free touchdown on the opening kickoff of the game. There are many other ways to pay tribute to Damar Hamlin than scripting a play on the football field.
