Super Bowl LVII will feature the first matchup between the two black QBs, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts.

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith joined The Pivot Podcast with Fred Taylor, Channing Crowder, and Ryan Clark to discuss the accomplishments of this Super Bowl featuring the first two black QBs, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts. He also gave credit to QBs such as Randall Cunningham, Warren Moon, Donovan McNabb, and Michael Vick for paving the way for black QBs.

Smith said:

"I'm extremely excited. You know, you think about Doug Williams and what he did winning the Super Bowl, the first black quarterback to win the Super Bowl. Think about all the guys who paved the way for us. You know what I mean. To even have this opportunity, you know, the Cunninghams [Randall Cunningham] and Warren Moons and Mcnabbs [Donovan McNabb], Vicks [Michael Vick]."

He added that it was outstanding to see Hurts and Mahomes compete against one another in the Super Bowl.

"And you know, all the guys who looked like me who I idolized and figured man, if they could do it, I could do it. So to see Jalen and to see Patrick, you know, two outstanding young men, two outstanding players to come from, I believe great families, you know what I mean, who have great backgrounds. That is what we are."

He continued:

"We know they come from great families, got great backgrounds, obviously great athletes and great players, great quarterbacks. But what you see from those guys is great leadership and great backbone. And that's what our community stands on. And that's where we are."

Geno Smith has earned a lot of money this season. When Russell Wilson was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos, many thought they would finish as a bottom-five team in the NFL.

To everyone's surprise, Smith was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season and led the Seahawks to an improbable playoff appearance, finishing with a 9-8 record in the regular season.

He earned Pro Bowl honors, led the league in completion percentage, and set the Seahawks franchise record for most passing yards (4,282) in a single season. Smith is a free agent but is expected to reach a contract extension with the Seahawks.

The two sides are "looking very good," according to Adam Schefter. Geno Smith recently won the Comeback Player of the Year and is expected to be Seattle's starting quarterback next season.
