With just a day to go before the NFL 2024 regular season kicks off, the Dak Prescott saga is still lingering. While thankfully he hasn't staged a holdout, the uncertainty about his future with the team could affect his performance.

In a recent conversation with Kay Adams, she posed a question to 4x Super Bowl champion, Rob Gronkowski. She asked what he thought would happen to Prescott, and whether the team would move on from him.

Gronk had this to say:

"I think he'll be resigning with the Cowboys. I mean, the guys puts up numbers. It's so hard to find a franchise quarterback. Who are you going to move on to? Like, are you kidding me? The guy knows the playbook in and out. He knows the system in and out. He's been having great years.

He conceded that while the team had made it to the playoffs five times with Prescott at the helm, Dallas had failed make it to the Super Bowl, having never won an NFC championship. However, he argued that responsibility for losses does not rest solely on the shoulders of the quarterback.

"It's it's a team game. You know, when they lose in the playoff it's not just the quarterback's fault. It's everyone's fault as a whole. You can't just put the blame on Dak, and everyone does, because he's the quarterback of the franchise.

With the significant stall in signing a new contract, one analyst thinks that the situation has been engineered by Cowboys owner, team president and GM, Jerry Jones.

When will the Dak Prescott saga come to an end?

Last year, the Cincinnati Bengals signed a deal with quarterback Joe Burrow just a few days before the new season kicked off. The new deal gave him the title of "highest-paid QB of all time." Could Jerry Jones be planning the same for Prescott?

NFL analyst Clarence E. Hill Jr. claimed that Jerry Jones would try to "steal the spotlight" by announcing the extension just before the season started. In an appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show," Hill claimed that the baseline for Prescott is $55 million per year, which is what Burrow receives.

But the clock is fast ticking. And no, not for Dak Prescott, but for the Cowboys. As Gronk articulated, there is no other option that makes sense. Prescott, on the other hand, has all the leverage in the world.

Should the Cowboys choose to not extend his contract, he will hit free agency in 2025. And there won't be any shortage of teams that would pay a fortune to have him join the roster. But for now, it's a wait-and-watch scenario for Cowboys fans.
