The 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles are going to be a seminal moment for football on the world stage and Peyton Manning imagines Lamar Jackson to herald it. The summer edition of the Olympics will be held four years from now in the USA and American Football will find itself showcased to the entire world.
Flag football will officially be a part of the 2028 Olympics and Peyton Manning could hardly be more excited for it. And it looks like he is not the only one as he is hearing current NFL players, such as Joe Burrow, campaigning to be on the team. But Manning namechecked Lamar Jackson as the quarterback and Tyreek Hill as the wide receiver. As if salivating at the prospect, he even volunteered to coach it. The five-time MVP told the Pat McAfee Show,
"You mentioned the flag football is coming to the Olympics in LA in 2028. You hear about NFL players sort of campaigning to be on that team. It's scary to think Lamar Jackson, Tyreek Hill, but I'd like to be a coach on that team."
Peyton Manning offers Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan to coach Lamar Jackson at 2028 Olympics
Peyton Manning, after offering to provide his coaching services to the 2028 Olympics flag football team, then added self-deprecatingly that he might not be the best candidate for it. Referring to him coaching the AFC team in the Pro Bowl games for the last two seasons and ending up on the losing side both times to Eli Manning, the Hall-of-Fame quarterback said he might not be the best for the job.
Instead, he offered two current NFL coaches who could get the best out of an NFL All-Star flag football team at the 2028 Olympics. Peyton Manning suggested someone like Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers or Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams as potential candidates. He said,
"There's no way I'm getting picked now that Eli's beat me twice... Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay would be more qualified. I'd be curious how many NFL teams let their coaches or players miss training camp to go participate in the Olympics, just to add something else to Roger Goodell's plate."
Peyton Manning concluded by saying that this will be something Roger Goodell will have to contend with in 2028 since NFL teams might not be willing to let star players like Lamar Jackson or head coaches like Kyle Shanahan miss training camp for the 2028 Olympics.
