Zach Wilson is set to join the Denver Broncos for the 2024 season after three underwhelming years with the New York Jets. According to reports on Monday, the Jets are getting a sixth-round pick from this year's draft in return for the quarterback and will give their seventh-round pick to Denver.

Fans on social media reacted to the trade, and a big part of the Broncos faithful was left fuming at the decision to bring the signal-caller to Denver.

Although Wilson might see a move to Denver as a fresh start to get his NFL career on track, one fan described it as the darkest day in Broncos history.

"This is one of the worst days in Broncos history," one tweeted.

Some witty fans mocked the Broncos for keeping up the Wilson moniker trend at the franchise.

Russell Wilson joined Denver from Seattle before the 2022 season and spent two seasons with the team. However, the veteran signal-caller didn't live up to the high expectations of the Broncos hierarchy and was released in March, landing with the Pittsburgh Steelers a few days later.

"Swapping an old Wilson for a younger Wilson..." another fan added.

One user aimed a cheeky dig at Wilson and highlighted how the new Broncos quarterback has drawn comparisons to Justin Fields, who joined the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason after three strong seasons with the Chicago Bears.

"We not only live in a world where Zach Wilson could actually be traded for something more valuable than belly button lint, but also a world where he's somehow nearly as valuable as Justin Fields," a fan commented.

Another fan pointed out that Broncos coach Sean Payton might be the last saving grace for Wilson's career. Payton spent 15 seasons with the New Orleans Saints and led them to the Super Bowl title in February 2010 before taking up the job in Denver ahead of the 2023 season.

"If Sean Peyton can’t help him then he’s really cooked," one user wrote.

One fan didn't hold back and suggested that Wilson should play in the newly-formed UFL spring football league, potentially proposing that the quarterback should not play in the NFL.

"Just let him go to the UFL already," the fan wrote.

Along with Zach Wilson, the Broncos have Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci in their quarterback ranks. However, one fan claimed that the franchise would be in a tough spot if it named Wilson as its starter.

"Denver starting Zach Wilson lmaooooooo that fan base must be in shambles," a fan added.

The New York Jets picked Zach Wilson as the second pick in the 2021 NFL draft. However, it's fair to say that the quarterback didn't live up to the hype.

Across three seasons with the Green Gang, Wilson racked up 6,293 yards and 23 touchdowns on 566 passes. He also threw 25 interceptions and finished with a 12-21 record. He suffered 113 sacks.

During his stint with the Jets, Wilson was benched for about a third of his tenure and struggled to find rhythm under coach Robert Saleh.
