Odell Beckham Jr. and DeAndre Hopkins are the best wide receivers available on the market, but despite multiple teams being interested in both of them, a deal hasn't been struck yet due to various reasons.
The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a Super Bowl-winning campaign, but that hasn't stopped them from improving their team. As a result, they have been linked with both OBJ and Hopkins throughout the offseason.
The Chiefs lost both JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman in free agency, which is why they need to add at least one quality receiver to help Patrick Mahomes. Although they are pursuing OBJ and Hopkins, getting any one of them will be quite tough for them.
As per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Chiefs have very little cap space, and convincing either Odell Beckham Jr. or DeAndre Hopkins to take a pay cut in order to play for them will be quite hard. Here's what Breer said:
"The reason Hopkins or Beckham would consider taking less to be Chiefs, of course, is obvious. Andy Reid has effectively turned the Chiefs into what the Patriots used to be. A place vets can go to chase rings and reestablish their market values, while working alongside a top coach and quarterback. If Beckham or Hopkins want that, the door’s open."
Last season, JuJu Smith-Schuster signed with the Chiefs on a prove-it deal that helped him secure a three-year deal with the New England Patriots this season. If Beckham Jr. and Hopkins are also comfortable with such a deal, then we could see either of them lining up with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce next season.
Odell Beckham Jr. and DeAndre Hopkins are likely to play in the AFC next season
Even if the Kansas City Chiefs are unable to add either Odell Beckham Jr. or DeAndre Hopkins, both star receivers could still end up playing in the AFC.
Hopkins has also been linked with a move to the Buffalo Bills, while OBJ could be seen alongside Aaron Rodgers in New York for the Jets.
Both these receivers are old, yet they are effective and will certainly elevate any team's chances of winning the Super Bowl. All eyes will be on OBJ and Hopkins in the coming days, as everyone is looking forward to seeing them play for new teams in 2023.
