Patrick Mahomes is widely regarded as one of the best quarterbacks of his generation. However, that did not stop Darrell ‘Housh’ Doucette from claiming he’s better than Mahomes at flag football. This comment has put the Team USA flag football star in deep waters with an NFL personality.
In an interview with TMZ, Doucette said that his IQ and expertise at flag football would allow him to outplay Mahomes. Over the last month, this is the second time, the 2022 World Games gold medallist called out NFL players. However, his latest remarks about Mahomes have the football world buzzing.
On Thursday, NFL Network’s co-host of the ‘Good Morning Football’ show, Kyle Brandt, shared his advice to the flag football QB while also ridiculing him. Kyle Brandt highlighted Doucette’s contribution to the game but cautioned him from chasing clout and being a “provocateur.”
“If you're gonna spend the next four years being a lightning rod and like a big talker and getting Patrick Mahomes to engage with you,” Brandt said. “It just goes to the dark side. And before now, it's been really pure and really constructive. So, I'm going to try to pull back a little bit.”
“But when I hear and say that he's better than Patrick Mahomes in any form of football, on any level, that's the dark side stuff. You don't need to say that. Just keep making plays, and maybe we'll see on the team in 2024 if every single NFL player ever decides they don't want to play.”
Brandt also pointed out that Doucette’s comments reeked of a mini-golf player claiming to be better than a top golfer. Despite different rules, Brandt pointed out that any top NFL QB would comfortably make the switch, including Patrick Mahomes.
Patrick Mahomes also responded to the flag football’s controversy
After Doucette’s comments went viral, the Kansas City Chiefs QB couldn’t help but respond. The three-time Super Bowl winner took to X (previously Twitter) to suggest his astonishment at being singled out.
“I’m like what he say f*ck me for?” Mahomes posted on X.
Apart from Mahomes, several top NFL QBs, including Joe Burrow, have also put their names in the hat to be in contention for the 2028 LA Olympics.
