Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly Stafford are college love birds. However, their romance is no less than a typical college drama.
Interestingly, back when their romance was fresh, Kelly decided to add some spice to it by dating someone else.
Kelly Stafford made an appearance on the 'Off the Vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe' podcast episode released on Tuesday. During the episode, Kelly revealed how she had a backup boyfriend that she dated just to piss Matthew off and make him more affectionate towards her.
"At first, I hated him. I loved him. I dated the backup to piss him off, which worked. He was the bad boy too like Matthew's so sweet and Southern gentleman and all that stuff and the backup was the complete opposite. It upset him which it worked thankfully," Kelly Stafford said. (3:46)
Before talking about her backup boyfriend, Kelly explained how Matthew was inclined towards casual dating when the two first started their romance.
However, that's the last thing that Kelly Stafford wanted. Instead, she wanted a serious relationship with the Rams quarterback and picked backup dating as a way to win Matthew.
The two started dating seriously between 1998-2000 and spent more than a decade with each other before exchanging final vows. The two got married in 2015, and Kelly Stafford took to her Instagram to share a sneak peek into her wedding day celebrations. According to Paper City, it was a no-phones-allowed wedding.
Giving birth to her two kids in 2017 affected Kelly's intimacy with Matthew
In The Morning After with Kelly Stafford & Hank podcast episode released in March 2022, Kelly talked about intimacy struggles post-pregnancy. After giving birth to her twins, Chandler and Sawyer, in 2017, Kelly was dealing with some issues.
"I was in a terrible place, and not only did I not have energy for Matthew, but I was so insecure about my body that I would not be naked near him ... I could not do it. It was really hard on our marriage because of my feelings toward my own body," Kelly Stafford had said.
She also noted how she didn't enjoy her first three pregnancies, as she was just trying to get back into shape after it. However, her mentality changed after the fourth kid. Kelly explained her new mentality:
"I think it's a really good thing to remember, your babies are only babies once. So enjoy when they are babies. You have your entire life to get your body back. We put so much pressure to bounce back that we forget to enjoy our little ones."
Kelly and Matthew Stafford are parents to four beautiful daughters: Sawyer, Chandler, Hunter, and Tyler.
Tyler is the youngest kid and arrived in June 2020. Kelly Stafford gave birth to Hunter in August 2018, while the identical twins Chandler and Sawyer were born in March 2017.
In January 2024, the daughters cheered for their father during the Rams' playoff game against the Lions.
