Wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown was brought in by the Kansas City Chiefs this off-season to help their wide receiver corps. The flashy speedster, who has scored 28 touchdowns over five seasons, is expected to be a new primary target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

With the Chiefs hosting the Baltimore Ravens this Thursday in the 2024 NFL season opener, the Chiefs will be without Brown. Brown suffered a sternoclavicular dislocation, an injury more common in car accidents against the Jacksonville Jaguars in their preseason opener.

ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter broke the news on X this morning that the Chiefs will be without Brown.

"Chiefs officially ruled out WR Hollywood Brown for Thursday night’s game vs. the Ravens," Schefter wrote on X.

The news comes as no surprise, as Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters on Friday that he didn't expect Brown to play. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill suffered a similar injury before the 2019 season, which forced him to miss four games. Brown's injury happened earlier in the preseason, giving the Chiefs hope he will be back sooner than later.

Not only will Brown miss out on the opportunity to play in the Chiefs' 2024 season opener, but also the chance to face the team that drafted him in 2019. Brown was selected with the 25th overall pick by the Baltimore Ravens. He played for the Ravens for three seasons, with his most productive season coming in 2021.

With Marquise Brown out, Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy are expected to be top wide receivers

Marquise Brown was signed this off-season by the Kansas City Chiefs to become one of their top wide receivers. With him out, the responsibility falls on Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy.

Rice led the Chiefs' wide receivers last year as a rookie with 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. There was a fear that the team would possibly open the season up without him due to his legal issues.

No other Chiefs wide receiver had over 500 receiving yards or more than three receiving touchdowns last season.

The Chiefs boosted their wide receiver corps in the draft by selecting Xavier Worthy (who broke the 40-yard-dash record) with their first-round pick this year. He had over 1,000 yards and scored five touchdowns last season for Texas.

Other wide receivers that could be featured in Thursday night's season opener include JuJu Smith-Schuster, Justin Watson and Mecole Hardman.
