Jets fans divided on Malachi Corley's Draft pick for Aaron Rodgers' offense

The New York Jets added Malachi Corley in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft to give Aaron Rodgers a weapon. The Jets did not come on board in the second round of the draft and had picked offensive tackle Olu Fashanu in the first round. That pick was needed to protect their quarterback, as they cannot afford for him to go down injured for the second straight season.

But that meant that Aaron Rodgers was left without a third wide receiver to complement Garrett Wilson and the recently acquired Mike Williams, with the latter coming off an ACL injury himself and having never shown Pro Bowl caliber. Therefore, they needed to really get their next pick right. They needed to get great value in a round where most of the top wide receivers had already gone off the board. They decided to roll the dice with Malachi Korley out of Western Kentucky.

To say it elicited a mixed reaction was an understatement. Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to vent their feelings and frustrations. Some called him the new coming of Deebo Samuel. Others were decidedly undecided. Here are some of the reactions from the platform.

Another general feeling was whether the Jets would know how to use Malachi Corley correctly. He has a monster run-after-catch numbers and to free him and throw him at the opposition will require careful planning on offense. If he is to become the next Deebo Samuel, there are questions if Nathaniel Hackett can give him an environment like Kyle Shanahan has created at the San Francisco 49ers.

"I knew Corley was gonna go higher than he probably should but Jets is interesting. Not sure they're a smart or creative enough offense to use him tbh"
"Dang man, I feel like Malachi Corley got a bad landing spot in the Jets… dont feel like they’ll use him to his strengths. If they do he’ll be an absolute menace"
"Lmao at these analysts talking about the Jets being able to use Corley with innovative play designs. Did they forget that Hackett is the OC for the Jets?"

Fans' doubts aside, the Jets are sold on Malachi Corley being an asset for Aaron Rodgers

Fans might be conflicted about whether Malachi Corley is someone the Jets should have traded up for to move to the top of the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. But for the franchise itself, there looks to have been no doubts. The organization's social media team released a conversation between the general manager and the coach to indicate just how sold they were on him.

It showed Joe Douglas asking Robert Saleh if he wanted the Western Kentucky player "no matter what." The coach replied in the affirmative repeating those same words. Now, it might be an elaborate social media prank on the part of the Jets but even then it shows just how confident they are of Malachi Corley coming good as a weapon for Aaron Rodgers.

And if the rookie can deliver on his promise and the coaching staff can get the best out him, Aaron Rodgers could be a very happy camper in the upcoming season.
