Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith suffered a serious concussion during Sunday's win against the New Orleans Saints. He was hit on his blind side by Saints defensive tackle Khristian Boyd, leading to his helmet being knocked off and him laying on the field for several minutes.

Smith's former teammate, Jason Kelce, gave his opinion on the hit and how he sees it as a former player.

"You could tell the team was rattled by it, and it lit a fire under their a**, which, I mean ... it sucks when you see a guy, especially guys as good as DeVonta, to have that happen," Kelce said (56:12). "It's gonna eat at you. And I don't look at it like that when you're not on the field, like it did look like the guy was playing to the echo the whistle, if anything, I think it's on the refs.
"You got to stop the play early. Come on, now, what are we doing? Blow it dead. But I kind of get it because he pushed, like, out of bounds and towards the bench. Like, come on. You know you're out of bounds. But at the end of the day, I kind of like when guys play to the echo whistle and play through it, that's what I'm telling my team to do. If I'm out there, I'm pissed."

DeVonta Smith had already been pushed back by three other New Orleans Saints defenders when Boyd hit him. The officials hadn't blown the whistle, so the play wasn't dead yet, which allowed Boyd to deliver the hit.

Jason Kelce made it apparent that if he were still playing for the Eagles, he would have let his opinion on the hit be well-known.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson reacted to the hit on teammate DeVonta Smith

DeVonta Smith's teammates weren't happy with Khristian Boyd. Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who previously played for the New Orleans Saints, shared his thoughts on the hit.

"That’s the dirtiest s--t I ever saw in football, bro. Y’all obviously saw that forward progression was stopped. And for them to take a cheap shot on one of our key guys, it shows what kind of team that is. They’re front-runners," Gardner-Johnson told reporters

Since the officials chose not to flag it, Boyd wasn't penalized for his actions. The Philadelphia Eagles confirmed after the game that Smith sustained a concussion and his availability in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is uncertain.
