J.J. Watt applauds Mike Evans after record-breaking performance in Buccaneers' 36-30 loss to Falcons

Despite losing to the Atlanta Falcons in overtime last night, Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide recevier Mike Evans made history. Evans hauled in five receptions for 62 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

He becomes the 26th player in NFL history to surpass the 100-total touchdown milestone. After his big game in the Bucs' team loss, a Tweet from X user, @diidlake detailing Mike Evans' stats through his first 10 seasons, went viral. The tweet was captioned with, "I don't think we appreciate how insanse Mike Evans is."

Former NFL Defensive lineman J.J. Watt responded by re-tweeting:

"Criminally underrated."

Evans tied Frank Gore and as well as Franco Harris and Curtis Martin for the 23rd-most total touchdowns in NFL history. With his 99 receiving touchdowns, he is now tied for the 11th-most receiving touchdowns with Don Hutson.

With these two receiving touchdowns, Evans surpassed tight end Antonio Gates for the seventh-most games with multiple receiving touchdowns. Evans is the Buccaneers all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

Mike Evans is currently not on pace to surpass 1,000-plus receiving yards in 2024

Mike Evans is one of the most consistent athletes of all-time. It's one thing for an NFL wide receiver to have 10 seasons with 1,000-plus receiving yards. Evans did it in his first 10 seasons, recording 10-straight seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards, an NFL record.

While he has so far accumulated 10-straight seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards, that streak is in jeopardy this season.

Evans has 23 receptions for 276 yards, and five touchdowns through five games. He is currently averaging 55.2 yards per game. If he keeps the same pace going, he will just miss the 1,000 yard milestone. Evans is currently on pace to end the season with 938 receiving yards.

Of course, that's just a projection. Evans has the ability to have a few monster games each season, and a big game in his next outing could put him on pace to surpass 1,000 yards. Another key component to getting there is staying healthy.

Evans has done a great job of staying healthy in his career, playing in at least 13 games in every season. We'll have a better idea towards the end of the season if Evans will be on pace to extend his NFL records.
