Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's concussion has been a major talking point over the past two years. Concerns about the former Alabama signal caller's health intensified in Week 2 after he went down with another concussion during a Thursday Night Football showdown against the Buffalo Bills.

Tagovailoa has been out of action since then, initially entering the NFL's concussion protocol before being placed on injured reserve. Week 6 was a bye week, marking four weeks of IR for the Dolphins QB. He is eligible to return to action in Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals. However, coach Mike McDaniel announced that his $212 million quarterback will not take the field this week.

Will Tua Tagovailoa play in 2024?

McDaniel ruled Tagovailoa out of Week 7 against the Colts but added that the plan was to see him suit up sometime later this year. McDaniel added that the Dolphins quarterback is still seeking information with a view to return to action.

In Tagovailoa's absence, the Dolphins first turned to Skylar Thompson, who also suffered an injury, and then to Tyler Huntley, who has since been named the starting quarterback for the franchise.

With Huntley under center, the Dolphins snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating the New England Patriots 15-10 win in Week 5. Following that game, Patriots coach Jerod Mayo decided to bench Jacoby Brissett, naming rookie Drake Maye as the starter for the rest of the year.

Miami Dolphins' schedule in the spotlight

After the Week 7 game against the Colts, the Dolphins will go up against the Cardinals, Bills, Rams, Raiders and Patriots.

Going by McDaniel's words, we could potentially see Tua Tagovailoa return to the fold in one of these games, though contention for the playoffs may well be out of their hands by the team their star quarterback returns to action.
