The Miami Dolphins will begin their 2024 preseason on Friday night, and many are curious to know how much time starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will spend on the field, or if he will play at all. Fans should reduce their expectations, as it's uncertain if the athlete will play in the opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

Usually, the Dolphins have been cautious with Tagovailoa during the preseason. The QB didn't play in the Week 1 preseason games during the last two campaigns and saw limited action in Week 2 and Week 3. On August 7, coach Mike McDaniel said:

"Do I expect from past scenarios a deviation from the last two years? I don't think you'll be surprised."

The Miami Dolphins will play the Washington Commanders in their second preseason game, which is possibly when Tagovailoa will see the most action.

It's also doubtful that McDaniel will employ the services of other key players like Jalen Ramsey, Terron Armstead, Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. Receivers River Cracraft, Willie Snead IV and tight end Jonnu Smith are slated to play tonight. In addition, McDaniel said that Mike White and Skylar Thompson had a close contest last season for the race for the QB2 spot, and one of them will start against the Falcons tonight.
