Is Rashid Shaheed playing tonight? Saints WR's status revealed for Week 7 Broncos clash

Rashid Shaheed is a solid contributor to the New Orleans Saints' offense. The veteran wide receiver is the team's WR2 after Chris Olave and a decent yardage option on Dennis Allen’s side.

Let's examine Shaheed's availability ahead of the Saints' Week 7 game against the Denver Broncos.

Is Rashid Shaheed playing tonight?

No, Rashid Shaheed is not playing tonight against the Denver Broncos. Shaheed is undergoing surgery on his meniscus, and there's a distinct possibility that he'll end up on the injured reserve.

Shaheed suffered the injury in his side's 51-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had a stat line of one catch and 11 receiving yards as the Saints slumped to their fourth consecutive loss of the season. It leaves them 2-4 entering their Thursday Night Football game against the Sean Payton-coached Denver Broncos.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Shaheed could be out for the rest of the season if he needs a full meniscus repair. This news comes at a terrible time for the Saints, as they'll also be without WR1 Chris Olave due to a concussion suffered in Week 6. It begs the question of who'll step up in their absence as they look to end a four-game losing streak.

How has Rashid Shaheed performed this season?

Rashid Shaheed has been one of the better WR2s in the NFL this season. The veteran pass catcher has amassed a stat line of 20 catches, 349 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He proved to be a solid running mate for Chris Olave in the six games that he featured in 2024.

However, with his meniscus injury, there's a solid chance that we won't see him again until 2025. That leaves the Saints with Olave, Bub Means, Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Mason Tipton as the only wide receivers on the active roster.

It means that Derek Carr (or Spencer Rattler) will need to utilize the above options and tight ends Juwan Johnson, Taysom Hill and Foster Moreau. The Saints could also utilize their running game more moving forward, as Alvin Kamara remains one of the better running backs in the league.
