Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce was excited as the Detroit Lions mustered an impressive win over the Los Angeles Rams to start their season on Sunday. Dan Campbell's team persevered in an overtime thriller, earning a second straight win over Sean McVay's team after beating them in the 2023 playoffs.

In the Rams' first game without Aaron Donald on the roster, they suffered badly against the run. The Lions absolutely dominated with the running game, going for 163 yards in 31 carries (5.3 average). David Montgomery finished the game with a touchdown.

Jason Kelce, a strong run blocker who retired after the 2023-24 season, was impressed by Detroit's approach.

"Wow, Detroit just ran the ball down their throat," Kelce tweeted. "Holy shit that was an impressive drive in overtime!! I’ll be up for another 2 hours because of that, adrenaline is through the roof!"

Although it felt sloppy at some points, and Los Angeles led for most of the fourth quarter, Dan Campbell's team still found a way to get through.

The Lions are one of the favorites in 2024

Dan Campbell was a much-maligned head coach hiring by the Detroit Lions in 2021, especially due to his first words after getting the job. However, the rebuild he has orchestrated alongside Lions GM Brad Holmes has been impressive. The 2023 NFC Championship Game appearance was the icing on the cake.

Dan Campbell showed confidence and courage to take risks in some of the most hostile environments in the league. Beating the Chiefs, moving beyond the Rams and the Buccaneers and taking the 49ers to the last minutes were impressive feats for a team that had such a hard rebuild.

The Lions will look to kick on from their successful season and perhaps go all the way in the 2024 campaign.
