Patrick Mahomes has been under fire this season for his unimpressive production. And now amid all of that, something has happened to make it worse.

In the game vs the Los Angeles Chargers, Mahomes threw the ball toward star TE Travis Kelce. Unfortunately, the pass was intercepted by Chargers defender Kristian Fulton. As Mahomes raced to tackle Fulton, he crashed into Rashee Rice, hitting him in the abdomen region.

It knocked the wind out of Rashee Rice and he had to be carted off the field. He seemed inconsolable as he was being carted away. At the time of the hit, the Chargers had 10 points, while the Kansas City Chiefs were still at 0.

Fans took to X (formerly, Twitter) to bash Mahomes for not only throwing an interception but also for injuring his teammate. They accused him of bringing about his own team's downfall.

"Mahomes is literally ruining this team"

Other fans also heaped blame on Mahomes for jeopardizing his team.

"Guy is a total f**king idiot," another fan fumed.
"Mahomes punishing Rice because the NFL didn’t," one fan wrote.
"Mahomes coming downhill like he a saftey smh," one fan commented.

Rashee Rice injury update

During halftime, in a quick statement to the media, Chiefs HC Any Reid said that the condition of Rice was “not good”. This comes at a time when the Chiefs team is already banged up with RB Isiah Paceco nursing a fractured fibula. He has since been placed on IR and will return in Week 8, at best.

In a breather for Chiefs fans, Dr. Mike Adickes, an orthopaedic surgeon and former NFL O-lineman, took to X to state his professional opinion on what Rice and the Chiefs could be dealing with:

"Rashee Rice with right knee injury. Definite hyperextension. Can have ACL tear and compression fracture with this mechanism. Return unlikely. Await MRI.

Rice was the second-round pick in last year’s Draft and quickly rose to the top as the Chiefs’ best receiver this season. On Sunday, he already had 24 catches for 288 yards and 2 TDs under his belt. In terms of receptions, he was only behind Travis Kelce in receptions and yards.

In his absence, rookie WR Xavier Worthy will now get to prove his mettle. In the Chargers game, he already managed to catch a 54-yard TD pass from Mahomes. At the time of writing, the Chargers were leading at 10-7.
