Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is now the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. Hours before the Cowboys' showdown with the Cleveland Browns in their season opener on Sunday afternoon, Prescott signed a four-year $240 million contract extension, per multiple reports.

Prescott becomes the highest-paid quarterback and player in NFL history, being paid $60 million per season. This comes after Prescott led the league in passing touchdowns last season (36) and threw for the second-most passing yards in a single season in his eight seasons.

Upon learning about Prescot's new contract right before kickoff, fans lauded him for getting the bag and earning the extension. Fans pointed out that Prescott had some leverage to get a deal done with kickoff hours away.

"Biggest of all buzzer beaters. Dak Prescott becomes the first $60 million per year man. Leverage is king," one person wrote.

While some fans understood Prescott resetting the QB market, others thought it was an overpaid contract. Some questioned how Prescott keeps getting paid, while others pointed out that the Cowboys might not have money to give linebacker Micah Parsons a contract.

Prescott has a 2-5 postseason record and has yet to bring Dallas to an NFC championship game.

Here's how other fans reacted:

"How does this guy keep getting paid?" one fan questioned.
"Massive overpay," one person said.
"The NFL absolutely cannot stop making B-tier QBs the highest paid players in the league," a fan said.

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was always optimistic that the team would get deals done with Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. After some concerns, the Cowboys were able to extend both Prescott and Lamb before the start of the season.

The Cowboys landed deals with Lamb and Prescott within the last week-and-a-half.

Lamb became the NFL's second highest-paid wide receiver when he signed a four-year, $136 million deal with $100 million guaranteed. Between Lamb and Prescott, the Cowboys paid them a combined $376 million and now have the highest-paid quarterback on their roster as well as the second-highest wide receiver.

The Cowboys will face the Cleveland Browns at 4:25 p.m. ET on the road in Cleveland. Now, they will enter the season with fewer distractions.
