Did John Madden ever host SNL?

While SNL was taking off, John Madden was the face of the Raiders, broadcasting, virtual football, and arguably the NFL itself. But did the coach ever serve as the face of SNL? Here's a look at what the head coach put on tape with the long-time running comedy program.

Put simply, yes, the coach did host the show on Jan. 30, 1982. A clip of his work exists on the official YouTube channel for the show. In the skit, Madden plays a reporter who is inside the locker room of the losing locker room of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Various celebrities, including Eddie Murphy, voiced their frustration in a hilarious manner as Madden went around the room interviewing the players. Eventually, a brawl breaks out.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce gets plucked for SNL

Madden, like many other football stars, was the host back then, but now the Kansas City Chiefs are sending their own star to the television program. Tight end Travis Kelce will be hosting the program on March 4. Per a clip posted by Aaron Ladd on Twitter, he was asked about his involvement by Jimmy Fallon.

Kelce said:

"For sure. I mean, growing up, I was a huge like Farley, Farrell, kind of guy growing up. And, yeah, I used to watch Saturday Night Live with my mother. And it's an absolute honor and a privilege to be hosting SNL March 4. I am so nervous for that, oh my gosh."

So far, Kelce has primarily been known for his purely athletic acumen as he's grown to power with the Kansas City Chiefs. Between his work with Mahomes and Alex Smith over the years, the tight end has built a resume rivaling the best in the game. In the minds of several pundits, the tight end has already done enough to secure the title of the best in history at the position.
