A few weeks ago, Baker Mayfield said that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are less stressed now that he is the quarterback of the team. His comments caused a huge uproar, as many felt it was a dig at Tom Brady, who led the franchise to a Super Bowl.

Brady responded to Mayfield's comments during the Buccaneers' game against the Philadelphia Eagles on FOX Sports. The seven-time Super Bowl champion said that to him, 'stressful' was not being able to win the Super Bowl. He added that if he had wanted to have fun, he would have taken his kids to Disneyland.

Bill Belichick also backed Brady's statement and doubled down on the fact that not winning causes more stress. Mayfield later said that his comments were taken out of context.

Cam Newton also spoke about the situation and was neutral about it. He mentioned that the things Brady said were true, but Mayfield should also not feel 'intimated' by who he is and continue the same approach as he has done so far in his career. Newton said:

"Brady's flex is a different flex. We see Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, look at NFL on Fox, that's him. Then you got a seven-time Super Bowl champion. There's not another man on this planet that has those types of accolades. So, yeah, my guy, nobody else could even talk like that.
"Baker, you do you, bro. Brady is covering the game as he should. Two things can be true. Brady is gonna get his comments off and I don't think Brady intended it to be disrespectful, but it's facts, it's truth.
"But also for Baker Mayfield, you shouldn't feel intimidated for being who you are, by no stretch of the imagination, all right. Keep doing you bro, and winning."

Mayfield has been the Buccaneer's starting quarterback since Tom Brady retired in 2022. He has a 12-10 record as the team's quarterback and has thrown for 5,208 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions with a passer rating of 98.3 in those games.

He led the Buccaneers to a playoff win against the Eagles last season and later signed a three-year $100 million contract extension with the franchise.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 3-2 heading into Week 6 and are currently the joint leaders of the NFC South with the Atlanta Falcons. They lost 36-30 in overtime to the Falcons last week.

In that loss, Baker Mayfield threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns while completing 79.1% of his throws. The Buccaneers' next game is against the New Orleans Saints, and a win against them could prove to be crucial for them in winning the division for the fourth straight season.

Mayfield has started the season well, and he hopes to build on that to show that last season was not a fluke and he deserves to be a starting quarterback in the NFL for years to come.
