The NFL can be a divisive league across fanbases but there's one thing we can all agree on - that Aaron Rodgers' much-anticipated debut for the New York Jets went horribly wrong last year. There were numerous reports on Rodgers healing from his injury at an accelerated pace but we were never likely to see him return to the field with such a major injury.
However, 2024 is a new season and the four-time MVP is raring to go. The Jets have stacked up on weapons while retaining a major part of the core they'd assembled to put Aaron Rodgers in the best position to challenge for the Super Bowl. However, one serial Super Bowl winner doesn't see Rodgers leading the Jets to the holy grail of football this season.
New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski made an appearance on First Things First on Friday, August 9 and had this to say about Rodgers and the Jets.
“I see the Jets having success and making the playoffs. I don’t really see a Super Bowl. I see [Aaron Rodgers] dominating, putting up touchdowns and having a great touchdowns to interceptions ratio.
"What’s so intriguing about Aaron Rodgers is he was a legacy quarterback. He was with one team for so long. People love to see legacy quarterbacks switch teams at the end of their careers and see how they fare. Just like Tom Brady when he went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Just like Brett Favre when he left Green Bay."
Jets fans hoping to see Aaron Rodgers put 'bummer' year behind
Aaron Rodgers will be 41 before the playoffs kick off this year but to hear it from the man himself, he's never been fitter.
“It was a bummer last year when he went down,” Gronkowski added on Aaron Rodgers' Achilles injury.
We probably won't see a Davante Adams trade go through despite Rodgers' best efforts, but that doesn't mean the Jets are short on weapons to go out and dominate.
With Mike Williams now on board to share some of the load with Garrett Wilson and Malachi Corley, the Jets are pretty well placed on the WR depth chart. Running back Breece Hall is also hyped up for the year with one eye on a 1,000-yard rushing season.
The Jets took some calculated risks with Tyron Smith, Haason Reddick and Mike Williams. We'll just have to wait and see if these moves pay off.
