Mike Williams's fantasy outlook: should you drop him?

Wide receiver Mike Williams of the Los Angeles Chargers has developed into a fantasy sensation in the past 12 months. The former first-round selection had a career-high average of 13 fantasy points per game in 2021 after recording only 7.9 (HPPR) fantasy points per game in his first four seasons.

Williams sustained an ankle injury in the fourth quarter of last week's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. This forced him to leave the game as the Chargers attempted a late rally. The incident caused him to fall and he was unable to bear any pressure on his leg as he was carried to the sidelines. After suffering a high ankle sprain in the defeat, Williams is projected to miss at least three games. The talented receiver's ankle rolled up after he made a catch the previous week.

The former first-round selection has a high ankle sprain and will play again this year. As a result, you should keep hold of Mike WIlliams until he returns. DeAndre Carter, Joshua Palmer, and Gerald Everett will see a target boost due to the former Clemson star's absence.

Williams assumed the WR1 role for Justin Herbert when the experienced Keenan Allen suffered an injury. In the five games Allen was absent, Williams produced an average of 13.2 fantasy points (HPPR). With Allen back, it is likely that when Williams returns, he will see fewer targets.

There are several wide receivers who could tie you over while you await Mike Williams' return. Joshua Palmer at the Chargers could see a good share of targets and is possibly not rostered. Kadarius Toney just signed for the Kansas City Chiefs, although he is injured and on a bye in Week 8, he could be worth taking a look at if available.

George Pickens at the Pittsburgh Steelers is seeing an increased target volume since Kenny Pickett was named the starting QB and should be looked at closely.
