Khalil Shakir has major expectations heading into his third season with the Buffalo Bills.

In his first two years, he had the benefit of playing with Gabe Davis and the monstrously productive Stefon Diggs, eventually assuming a key primary starting role as a sophomore. But now those two are gone, and he is tasked with leading a largely anonymous and unproven corps.

Meanwhile, the Miami Dolphins still have Tyreek Hill and the recently-extended Jaylen Waddle, who can utterly dominate defenses. The New York Jets have added Mike Williams to complement Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard.

Will that instill confidence in fantasy players? This breakdown aims to find out.

After minimal contributions as a rookie, Shakir really came into his own in 2023. Starting 10 of 17 games, he had 39 receptions for 611 yards and two touchdowns while chiefly operating from the slot.

He started the league year at No. 158 ACR and No. 133 ADP. However, six months later, after the departures of his teammates, he finds himself at No.136/124. Positionally, he has a draft average of No. 51.

Despite the losses of their two wideouts, the Bills still have quality pieces around their new main man. Josh Allen is still one of the league's top quarterbacks. Marquez Valdes-Scantling was a postseason hero for the Chiefs, and they have a potent double-tight end combination in Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid.

Should you draft Khalil Shakir, and where?

Sportskeeda has Khalil Shakir at WR53, positioned between Seattle Seahawks veteran Tyler Lockett and Indianapolis Colts rookie Adonai Mitchell.

How will he fare against either of them?

Surprisingly, he beats both of them in Sportskeeda's Fantasy Tool:

The fantasy points are close, but it is the projected stats that tell the tale. Shakir has significantly more projected yards (both rushing and receiving), as well as slightly more projected receptions. That more than makes up for his low projected touchdown count.

If one is still bullish on the reigning AFC East champions' chances, Shakir may be a good sleeper pick.
