Kevin Byard trade grades: Diving into the Eagles' acquisition of All-Pro safety

The Philadelphia Eagles have addressed an issue prior to the trade deadline with the acquisition of safety Kevin Byard.

With the Eagles in need of some secondary help, the front office with Howie Roseman was quick to get to work and sign the Pro Bowl safety.

It is yet another good piece of business for the Eagles as they again strengthen their roster ahead of the trade deadline.

The trade deal that got Byard to the Eagles was relatively straightforward as Philadelphia got itself a new Pro Bowl safety and sent safety Terrell Edmunds and two draft picks (a 5th and a 6th rounder) to the Titans, per Ian Rapoport.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Titans paid $7 million of Kevin Byard's $11 million compensation as a signing bonus, so the Eagles aren't getting their pockets hit for a big payday.

They got help at a position of need and did it without giving away much at all.

Eagles: A

Byard was born in Philadelphia, so it is a homecoming of sorts for the two-time All-Pro safety. He will slot superbly into an Eagles defense that was already one of the better units in the league. Plus, the Eagles got it done at cost as well, which at this time of year, is hard to do.

The move for Kevin Byard was a superb piece of business for the Eagles as they look to solidify their roster, looking to make another Super Bowl run.

The Eagles are 6-1 on the season after beating the Miami Dolphins and now their roster has gotten better. The defense gives up only 20.1 points a game (ranks 14th) and now with more secondary help for a unit that desperately needed it, the Eagles win at player acquisition again.

Titans: B

The Titans look to be in fire sale mode as they are currently 2-4. With Byard moving on, the Titans got themselves another player and a couple of extra draft picks.

Terrell Edmunds isn't a slouch either but the Eagles clearly wanted an upgrade and they got it. The Titans in return get a solid player at the safety position, while also strengthening their draft hand as well.

Per Profootballnetwork.com, Byard's salary for this year is just $4 million, and then next season, that gets bumped up to $9.6 million along with $4.5 million in other bonuses (not guaranteed). So it isn't exactly expensive for the Eagles.
