Russell Wilson is beginning a new chapter of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After performing poorly with the Denver Broncos over his two seasons there, he was ditched at the beginning of the new league year (complete with a record-breaking cap hit) and joined the Steelers for the league minimum.

During the preseason, he defeated young trade acquisition Justin Fields for the starting job. However, there will be much pressure on him, as it may mark his last time being relevant in the NFL unless he performs well.

Wthout further ado, will Wilson be on the field on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons?

Is Russell Wilson playing tonight?

For the past few days, Russell Wilson has been nursing a leg injury. As this is a road game, that usually means he's out and not merely questionable, given the distance involved.

However, on Saturday evening, he told his team that he could play. The doctors are said to be more cautious, and the team will make a final decision on Sunday morning. If he cannot play, Justin Fields will take Wilson's place.

Also questionable are running back Jaylen Warren and guard Isaac Seumalo. Rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson is purportedly out after hurting his ankle on Friday.

For the Falcons, the biggest question mark is tight end Kyle Pitts. The game will hold much significance for Steelers OC Arthur Smith, who was the Falcons coach from 2021 to 2023. In all three seasons, the team finished 7-10, leading to his firing after the final game of the 2023 season.

Who are the announcers for the Steelers vs Falcons Week 1 encounter?

Joe Davis (PBP), Greg Olsen (analysis) and Pam Oliver (sideline) will call the game for Fox.

Notably, this will mark Olsen's return to the No. 2 booth. He had been the No. 1 analyst in 2022 and 2023 beside Kevin Burkhardt, even calling Super Bowl LVII with him, only to be bumped back down when Tom Brady signed a 10-year, $375-million deal with Fox after his (abortive) first retirement in 2022.

Davis, meanwhile, will be calling a second consecutive Steelers season-opener. In 2023, he called their 7-30 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
