Is Nick Chubb playing today vs. Commanders? Exploring Browns RB's status for Week 5

It's been over a year since Nick Chubb featured in an NFL game. The perennial Pro Bowler suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season and remains on the sidelines.

Let's examine Chubb's potential return ahead of the Browns' Week 5 game against the Washington Commanders.

Is Nick Chubb playing today vs Commanders?

It is highly unlikely that Nick Chubb will play against the Washington Commanders in Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season. Chubb has spent the first four games of the year on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list as he continues to rehab.

According to Adam Schefter, the Cleveland Browns are expected to open Nick Chubb's practice window this week. The Browns will then have 21 days to add him to the active roster.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski hasn't commented on a time frame for the star running back's return.

"He (Chubb) is working very hard. The natural progression is for him to start practicing. He's ready to do that. We'll see how he goes from there. Really not focused much farther than Wednesday," Stefanski said.

The Cleveland Browns will be eager to get back one of the best rushing weapons in the league, as they've struggled without him in 2024. In the first month of the 2024 regular season, the Browns were ranked 26th in points per game (16.5) and 26th in rushing yards per game (94.8).

How to watch Browns vs. Commanders?

The Cleveland Browns (1-3) are up against the Washington Commanders (3-1) in Week 5 of the 2024 NFL season.

Here's what you need to know about how to watch the game:

  • Date: Sunday, Oct. 6
  • Live stream: FuboTV and DAZN
  • Stadium: Commanders Field, Landover, Maryland
  • Time: 1 p.m. ET
  • TV: Fox

The Browns haven't had an ideal start to the season and are fresh off a close loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Deshaun Watson had another game to forget, amassing a stat line of 176 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception. Running back Jerome Ford rushed for 58 yards and added 27 receiving yards for good measure. However, they suffered their third loss of the year.

The Washington Commanders are having a splendid start to life under coach Dan Quinn. The defensive guru has solidified the Commanders defense, and their offense is also playing some inspired football.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is having a stellar start to his NFL career and is fresh off amassing a stat line of 233 passing yards on 26-of-30 passing against the Arizona Cardinals. Next up on the table is a game against the struggling Browns.
