Brock Purdy has had a rough start to the 2024 season. After playing game manager in a win against the New York Jets (19 of 29 passes completed for 231 yards but no touchdowns), he has lost at the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams when he dominated (an average of 300 yards and four total touchdowns against an interception).

And as his San Francisco 49ers prepare to host the New England Patriots, he has become just another addition to their recent injury struggles.

Is Brock Purdy injured?

On Monday, it was revealed that Purdy sustained a sore back after Sunday's loss at the Rams and is considered a day-to-day case.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan, however, is optimistic about the quarterback's recovery.

"His MRI was good, so we feel good about that, but just sore today. Hopefully, he'll feel better by Wednesday," Shanahan said per 49ers Web Zone.

Elsewhere, while much discussion has been made about Christian McCaffrey's leg injury, the 49ers already have one man down and out for the entirety of this season: defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who tore his triceps in the same game. Shanahan called the development "a big (loss)."

Brock Purdy Fantasy Outlook for Week 4

Any Brock Purdy fans who have him on their fantasy team should be relieved at the news that Purdy's injury is not too serious.

Another piece of good news is that he is facing off against the New England Patriots, who have been continuing to flounder at 1-2 (last in the AFC East) with one of the weakest rosters in the league - one lacking in playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Even without Christian McCaffrey Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle (who missed Sunday with a hamstring injury) to work with, he still has Kyle Juszczyk, Brandon Aiyuk, and Jauan Jennings to feed.

Should you start Brock Purdy in Week 4 Fantasy Football?

Assuming that his back is fully healed, Purdy may be a sleeper to start this week despite the seeming lack of offensive weapons around him.

While the 49ers have fallen to a 1-2 record, their litany of injuries can somewhat excuse their poor performance. The Patriots, meanwhile, have been relatively fully healthy but remain unimpressive. Aaron Rodgers was able to torch them for 281 yards and two TDs as the Jets stormed to a 24-3 win on Thursday night.

That is especially true on the offensive side, where the former Mr. Irrelevant has been able to forge connections with men would would normally be on the bench.

Jacoby Brissett, meanwhile, has been one of the worst players in his position in the last two games, throwing just one touchdown and being sacked almost ten times across three games.
