Quarterbacks are often some of the highest-scoring NFL players during each week of the Fantasy Football season. This makes it extremely important for Fantasy Football teams to optimize their starters at the position.
A few key quarterbacks are on a bye week during Week 7, including Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Kirk Cousins, and Matthew Stafford. For fantasy teams with one of those four players as their usual starting quarterback, they will need to use a replacement. This is also true for Fantasy Football teams that stream weekly quarterbacks.
With the goal of accumulating as many fantasy points as possible in Week 7, here are three quarterbacks to target and three others to avoid.
Week 7 Fantasy Football Quarterbacks: Start 'Em
Dak Prescott - Dallas Cowboys vs. Detroit Lions
Dak Prescott hasn't played since Week 1 of the 2022-23 NFL season when he fractured his thumb against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is reportedly ready to return for Week 7 and draws one of the most favorable Fantasy Football matchups possible.
The Cowboys square off against the Detroit Lions at home. The Lions have allowed the most points of any NFL team by a wide margin. Their 34 points per game allowed is a touchdown more than any other team.
This is great news for Prescott, who helped the Cowboys become the highest-scoring team during the 2021-22 NFL season. He is an excellent fantasy quarterback in his return to action this week.
Tua Tagovailoa - Miami Dolphins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Tua Tagovailoa currently ranks in the top 10 in Fantasy Football points per game among all quarterbacks. He demonstrated excellent chemistry early in the season with newly acquired Tyreek Hill, as well as Jaylen Waddle again, in his new offensive system.
Tagovailoa has missed the last two games with injuries, but is set to return in Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's a favorable matchup for Tagovailoa as the Steelers have allowed the third-most passing yards per game so far.
Geno Smith - Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Geno Smith enters Week 7 having scored the seventh-most Fantasy Football points per game. He is currently averaging more fantasy points than Justin Herbert, who he will be facing off against this week.
Smith has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2022 season so far. There's no telling how long it will last, but while he's hot, he's established himself as a must-start weekly fantasy quarterback.
Week 7 Fantasy Football Quarterbacks: Sit 'Em
Jared Goff - Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys
Jared Goff has exceeded expectations so far during the 2022-23 NFL season. He has already recorded three games with more than 250 passing yards and multiple touchdown passes. He is a solid fantasy quarterback in the right matchup, but this isn't one of those weeks.
The Detroit Lions will face off against the Dallas Cowboys' stingy passing defense in Week 7. The latter currently allow the fourth-fewest passing yards per game, while also leading the entire NFL in total sacks.
Russell Wilson - Denver Broncos vs. New York Jets
Russell Wilson has been one of the most disappointing players of the 2022-23 NFL season so far. He's struggling in his first season with the Denver Broncos, recording just five total passing touchdowns across his first six games. He currently ranks just 21st in fantasy points per game among quarterbacks, making him borderline droppable at this point.
Things won't get any easier for Wilson in Week 7. He faces off against the New York Jets' underrated defense. They enter the matchup ranked in the top 12 in the NFL in passing yards allowed and total yards allowed.
Marcus Mariota - Atlanta Falcons vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Marcus Mariota is a solid streaming quarterback in the right matchup. He has exceeded 50 rushing yards in three of his first six games this year. Rushing has always been a valuable weapon for quarterbacks in Fantasy Football because of the additional points.
The issue with Mariota this week is that he will be playing on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals. He has been much better at home this year, scoring two of his three rushing touchdowns at home and posting his top two fantasy scores of the season. There will be better opportunities to use Mariota in other games this year.
