Running mock drafts is a useful way to strategize for fantasy football. Managers get the opportunity to practice their drafts to understand better what picks they want to make when the real one comes around. Here's an example of how to approach having the last pick in a 12-team league using a full-PPR scoring format.

Who Should I Draft

Round 1, Pick 12: Garrett Wilson, Jets WR

Landing Garrett Wilson with the final pick of the first round is an excellent starting point in fantasy football drafts. He has exceeded 80 receptions and 1,000 yards in both of his seasons so far, despite suffering through terrible quarterback play. With a healthy Aaron Rodgers this year, Wilson is in a prime position for a major breakout.

Round 2, Pick 1: Kyren Williams, Rams RB

Sportskeeda's Who Should I Draft tool suggests Kyren Williams as a solid second player to pair with Wilson for managers who get the back-to-back picks. He finished as the overall RB2 in fantasy points per game last season, trailing only Christian McCaffrey. He missed five games with an injury, so with a full season in an elite offense, he has a massively high ceiling.

Round 3, Pick 12: James Cook, Bills RB

After finishing as the RB44 in his first season, James Cook improved to the RB11 last year. With the Buffalo Bills moving on from Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis during the offseason, they may choose to utilize their rushing game more this year. This gives Cook a ton of upside in fantasy football this season.

Round 4, Pick 1: Lamar Jackson, Ravens QB

Having an elite rushing quarterback has proven to be a valuable asset in fantasy football. Lamar Jackson has finished among the top 10 quarterbacks in each of the past three fantasy seasons and has some of the most reliable rushing contributions of any player in his position. He has also won two NFL MVP awards, making him an excellent pick in the fourth round of drafts.

Round 5, Pick 12: Zay Flowers, Ravens WR

Stacking quarterbacks with a wide receiver on their NFL team is a useful strategy in fantasy football. After landing Lamar Jackson, it makes sense to target the Baltimore Ravens' top wide receiver, Zay Flowers. He finished as the WR29 in his rookie season last year and led the team with 77 receptions and 858 receiving yards.

Round 6, Pick 1: Kyle Pitts, Falcons TE

Elite tight ends are hard to come by in fantasy football drafts, so it makes sense to target one in the middle rounds with significant upside. Kyle Pitts is one of the best examples of this. He has finished among the top 15 tight ends in two of his three seasons and has done so with poor quarterback play. With the addition of Kirk Cousins, he is a major breakout candidate this season.

Round 7, Pick 12: Christian Watson, Packers WR

Injuries have been a major concern for Christian Watson during his two-year career, but he has flashed elite upside when healthy. He finished as the weekly WR10 and WR8 in his final two games last year before missing the final five weeks of the season. He is a risky pick in fantasy drafts, but his ceiling makes him valuable.

Round 8, Pick 1: Ezekiel Elliot, Cowboys RB

According to his current ADP, Ezekiel Elliot is being selected around the ninth round of 2024 fantasy football drafts. This could be extremely low when factoring in that he is expected to serve as the workhorse for the Dallas Cowboys this year. Reaching can be detrimental to overall roster construction, but it's hard to find a player with a higher floor than Elliot in the mid-rounds.

Round 9, Pick 12: Ladd McConkey, Chargers WR

Rookies often carry more risk than most other fantasy football players, but they can also provide a huge reward. Ladd McConkey has some of the highest upside of any rookie this season as he has a legitimate chance to serve as the Los Angeles Chargers' WR1 this year. They moved on from Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, so he has an ideal opportunity.

Round 10, Pick 1: Keon Coleman, Bills WR

Much like McConkey, Keon Coleman will enter this season in a similar situation. He also has an elite quarterback to catch passes from in Josh Allen and his team has an opening at its WR1 spot. Allen needs to find new receivers to trust after losing Diggs and Davis, so Coleman could have a massive workload in his rookie season.
