Fantasy Football Buy Low Sell High Trade Targets for Week 6 feat. Cooper Kupp, De'Von Achane and more

As we now sit five weeks into the 2024 fantasy football season we see that our opinions on draft day might not all be winners. Players we selected high might be underperforming. Our rosters could use an overhaul to prepare us for a playoff push. There’s a never-ending tinkering that occurs in fantasy football managers' minds. We always assume that we can make our lineups better and sometimes we can. We just have to add the right players.

This article focuses on buying and selling fantasy assets at the right time. Trading for a player when their value could be low and moving on from someone when they can return maximum value. I never like to use the term “winning a trade” because that isn’t how trades should work. Your goal in any fantasy deal is to improve your roster.

With bye weeks in full swing and injuries occurring at a breakneck pace, we’ve got to adjust our focus and find players who can deliver the goods as we enter Week 6.

Players I’m Buying Low On

1] Jake Ferguson (TE, DAL)

This isn’t exactly buying low. Ferguson is awesome. He’s the overall TE 9, but on a per-game average, he’s TE 4 in PPR. This position is a dumpster fire. Ferguson is one of the few tight ends who can command the football in his offense. He’s the second option in the Cowboys passing attack.

His 30 targets rank fourth at the position. Oh, by the way, he missed the first two weeks! Ferguson is a stone-cold killer in a position where most guys are dead on arrival. Buy Ferguson before his bye week and use that off week as the buying opportunity.

2] De’Von Achane (RB, MIA)

If someone is hanging onto Achane (or any Dolphins player), they are likely drowning. Offer them a life raft in a trade. Achane is struggling because Tua Tagovailoa has been injured. Rumor has it Tua will return in Week 8. That’s why I want you to pounce today and get the electric Achance for pennies on the dollar.

Even with no QB to speak of, Achane is still third in RB targets. Once he gets his signal caller back, you’ll see the fantasy points pile up. We can’t forget that in Weeks 1 and 2, Achane scored 23 and 29.5 points, respectively. His owner is frustrated. Take this elite talent off their hands.

3] Cooper Kupp (WR, LAR)

Buying one of the best receivers in football isn’t an Earth-shattering idea. But it’s something fantasy players are not trying to do enough. Kupp could return after the Rams' Week 6 bye. When he does, so will his target-hog capabilities. Kupp saw 21 targets in Week 1. I repeat, 21 targets. That’s insane. This Rams offense is so condensed that only a few guys are even considered for touches. Kupp will become a black hole of targets, with only Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington competing with him outside. That’s a race that Kupp wins every time. Go get a future HOF talent at a discount.

Players I’m Selling High

1] Rashid Shaheed (WR, NO)

I love the year Shaheed has had. He’s the leading receiver on the Saints thus far. He has outplayed Chris Olave with more targets, yards, and touchdowns to date. The reason I’m selling - Derek Carr. Word today out of the Big Easy was Carr will miss several weeks with an oblique strain. That means we’re looking at either second-year pro Jake Haener or rookie Spencer Rattler at quarterback. No thanks. This offense is going to be awful with these young guys at the helm. Every Saints skill player is trending down with Carr’s injury news. Get out while you can.

2] Travis Etienne (RB, JAX)

Battling an injury and seeing his teammate Tank Bigsy eating away at snap share, Etienne is a perfect sell candidate. He still has enough of a role where other owners assume he has top value, but you know that his days as a bell cow back are over. In Week 5, we saw Bigsby carry 13 times to Etienne’s 6. Speaking of that shoulder injury, Etienne only played five snaps in the second half. Doug Pederson is coaching for his job. I don’t think he’s beholden to anyone right now. Bigsby is here to stay. Move on from Etienne while you can.

3] Isaiah Likely (TE, BAL)

If someone was foolish enough to sit on Likely from Week 2 through his inefficient Week 6 two-touchdown performance, they need this article. The Ravens have three tight ends, and none of them are setting the world on fire. Mark Andrews has a missing person alert out on him. His ten receptions through five games is a joke. Likely has three scores but isn’t playing starter-quality snaps. Now, even Charlie Kolar is getting work. If someone is dying at TE, sell them Likely off his two-score performance.
