The Masters has featured many controversial moments in the past, but now Ryan Fitzpatrick has given it an NFL flavor. The former QB took to the airwaves and fans were flummoxed by what he was doing, explaining golf. It was seemingly not the most natural fit and fans were quick to let their displeasure be known.

They took to social media with some strong reactions. Some pointed out that it cuts into actual golf coverage. Others pointed out that football was somehow introduced into the conversation during a golf tournament. Fans were also bemused because one would rarely see a golfer comment on a football game. Even more bizarrely, the bit veered away from sport altogether with comments about egg salad sandwiches. Below are some of the selected reactions:

Exploring what led to Ryan Fitzpatrick's appearance at the Master's

The reason why the former NFL QB might have found a way is due to the fact that he has established himself in the broadcast arena with Amazon on Thursday Night Football. That makes him an easy choice to pick from former players on any broadcast. Recently, news also emerged that he is participating in ESPN's SuperHole tournament, which is a cornhole event. That explains his association with the network that is currently broadcasting the Masters.

Furthermore, Ryan Fitzpatrick does have some experience with golf. He has previously teamed up with namesake golfer Matt Fitzpatrick to go undercover at the WM Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour.

Also, per ESPN, Ryan Fitzpatrick was not the only footballer there as Larry Fitzgerald was also present. So it perhaps wasn't all too incongruous to see the former quarterback there.

If he does transition into regular golf commentary and broadcasting, he will not be the first person to comment beyond their sport. NFL fans are well aware that Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe regularly comments on basketball with his sparring partner Skip Bayless. Baseball Hall of Famer Randy Johnson can be found as a photographer at many NFL games given he has chosen that as his vocation after calling time on his career.

While Ryan Fitzpatrick's aptness for golf commentary may be a discussion for a later date, fans pointed out that the current appearance seemed to distract from the golf itself.
