Derek Carr's time with the Las Vegas Raiders might have come to an unceremonious end. The three-time Pro Bowler has been benched for the rest of the 2022 NFL season. To make matters worse, Carr's benching comes with the Raiders still technically being in the playoff picture.

When Raiders' head coach, Josh McDaniels, stated that Carr would be benched for backup QB Jarrett Stidham, the news sent shockwaves around the NFL. Carr has been synonymous with the Raiders since being selected by the then-Oakland Raiders as a second-round draft pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He has survived a relocation, a few playoff runs, and numerous coaching changes. But it doesn't look like he'll survive this.

Following Carr's benching, it was reported by numerous media sources that the Fresno State University alum would step away from the team to "avoid the obvious distractions." This has led to speculation on whether Derek Carr quit the team following being benched.

Did Derek Carr quit on the Raiders?

No, from all indications, it's the other way around. It seems like the Las Vegas Raiders coaching staff, and by extension, the Raiders, have pulled the plug on Derek Carr's tenure.

The Raiders entered win-now mode in the 2022 NFL season by trading for Devante Adams and paying him an absolute bag. What's more, Carr has a massive contract with the Raiders, and so does star tight end Darren Waller. The Raiders became so cash-strapped that they low-balled key running back Josh Jacobs, who is about to be an unrestricted free agent. As such, their ownership group will be happier with a better than 6-9 record.

The Raiders are up against a rampant San Francisco 49ers team, and a lot is on the line in the Week 17 matchup. The futures of Josh McDaniels, Carr, Jacobs, and so much more will be under the magnifying glass.

Derek Carr's Fantasy outlook

Derek Carr was a fantasy gem in the 2021 NFL season, as the Fresno State legend was a few hundred yards from reaching the 5,000 passing yards milestone. As such, fantasy managers hoped that the addition of perennial Pro Bowler and good friend Davante Adams would have taken him to another level.

However, the reverse has been the case as Carr has regressed in the 2022 NFL season. His regression has affected fantasy teams all over the country and led him to be benched for the rest of the 2022 NFL regular season.

Carr will be replaced by Jarrett Stidham as the Raiders host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17. Devante Adams and Darren Waller will be catching passes from the inexperienced Stidham, and Raiders fans will be hoping for a miracle.

How is Derek Carr performing this season?

Derek Carr is having a down season as the starting QB for the Las Vegas Raiders. Up until the midpoint of the season, Carr was the Raiders' undisputed number one quarterback for almost a decade. However, following his worst statistical season since his Oakland days, he has been relegated to the bench for career backup QB Jarrett Stidham.

Carr has put up a stat line of 3,522 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions for the season.
