The tight end position lacks reliable options, but Dalton Schultz has been a rare exception. He played his first season with the Houston Texans last year after departing the Dallas Cowboys.

The 2024 NFL season may present some additional challenges to his potential workload. The Texans added Stefon Diggs during the offseason and will also get Tank Dell back from an injury. Schultz still makes for a solid pick in fantasy drafts, but his target share may decrease this year.

Dalton Schultz 2024 fantasy outlook, ADP and 2023 stats

Considering Schultz has exceeded 55 receptions and 85 targets in each of the past four seasons, his 2024 fantasy outlook gives him a safer floor than most other tight ends.

In his first season with the Texans last year, he totaled 59 receptions on 88 targets for 635 yards and five touchdowns, showing that his game was not just a product of the Cowboys' offense.

Schultz ranks as the TE13 and 121st overall player this year, according to his current ADP. He has outperformed that ranking in each of the past four years, but the added target competition from Dell and Diggs has lowered his overall ranking a bit. This allows managers to buy low on him in their fantasy drafts.

Is Dalton Schultz a good pick in fantasy football this year?

Finishing as a TE1 on most fantasy rosters in each of the past four seasons makes Schultz a dependable tight end to target. This gives him a safe floor, as his numbers have been extremely consistent, but his ceiling is likely capped by the Texans' offensive situation.

They already have three potentially elite wide receivers that will all be competing for target share. The benefit for Schultz is that his playing time won't be an issue as he is locked in as a starting tight end. He should consistently be on the field, and if he can maintain his workload, he could be a steal at his current ADP.

Who Should I Draft?
Who Should I Draft?

Dalton Schultz profiles as a back-end TE1 for most fantasy rosters and can be targeted around the tenth round. Considering his strong recent history, he is a valuable option at his current ADP.

Sportskeeda's Who Should I Draft tool suggests taking Schultz in favor of Cole Kmet, who will also be facing a ton of additional target competition this year. He is also the preferred choice to Pat Freiermuth and Hunter Henry, who both have new quarterbacks to deal with during the 2024 fantasy football season.
