Green Bay Packers wideout Christian Watson sprained his ankle severely during Sunday's Week 4 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Watson left the field on foot after the injury, but he was later carted off to the locker room. Despite the Packers' first report that he was questionable to return, he was ultimately declared out of the game.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network revealed on Monday that Watson will be sidelined for several weeks due to a high ankle sprain. Rapoport also added that the wide receiver didn't fracture any bone, but the injury is still enough to land him on the injured reserve list.

Given that Watson also missed eight games last season due to hamstring issues, the news that he will miss several weeks of play owing to an ankle injury will undoubtedly frustrate him.

Christian Watson accumulated 28 receptions for 422 yards and five touchdowns in just nine games played last season, which was a major factor in the Packers' run to the playoffs.

Quarterback Jordan Love's absence in Weeks 2 and 3 has a telling effect on Watson's contribution so far this season. He had only five receptions in his first three outings of the season for 80 yards and one touchdown.

Dontayvion Wicks and Jayden Reed will be more valuable in the Green Bay Packers passing game going forward if Watson is sidelined.

Christian Watson injury update: What happened to Packers WR?

Christian Watson was hurt early in Sunday's Vikings vs. Packers game while attempting to grab a pass from Jordan Love that Minnesota's LB Kamu Grugier-Hill intercepted. The wideout was carried off to the locker room following the play due to an ankle injury sustained when his leg got hooked beneath Grugier-Hill as he went backward.

Green Bay's head coach Matt LaFleur said following the game that he spoke with Watson, who believed the injury to be a sprain.

LaFleur stated, “I have talked to Christian, and he told me he thought it was just a sprain,” at his Sunday postgame press conference.
