Britain Covey suffered a shoulder injury during the Philadelphia Eagles' 15-12 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 3. Earlier this week, the Eagles had placed him on injured reserve, and the wide receiver was set to miss at least four games.

As per reports, Covey has broken a bone in his shoulder and has tissue damage. He's now expected to miss at least six games, and it's another blow for the Eagles, who are already without their two star wideouts.

Covery, who signed as an undrafted free agent with the Eagles in 2022, was the team's main punt returner. Since 2022, he has 63 returned punts for 734 yards, averaging 11.7 yards per return. In three games this season, he also had seven receptions for 34 yards.

The Eagles are 2-1 heading into Week 4. They face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next and could be without several key players on offense.

With Britain Covey set to miss at least six weeks, rookie defensive back Cooper DeJean could be on punt-returning duties. As of now, the Eagles wide receiver depth chart looks like this:

  • WR1: A.J. Brown*
  • WR2: DeVonta Smith*
  • WR3: Jahan Dotson
  • WR4: Johnny Wilson
  • WR5: Parris Campbell

Both A.J. Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion) haven't practiced this week and, as mentioned earlier, could miss the game against the Buccaneers. In their absence, Jahan Dotson will have a big opportunity to make a name for himself.

Dotson hasn't performed well since getting traded to the Eagles. Even in Week 3, tight end Dallas Goedert had a monster game and played a huge role in helping out Jalen Hurts without his top receivers.

Week 4 would have been a great opportunity for Britain Covey to show his skills as a receiver, but unfortunately, his injury is quite serious and will require time to heal. Fortunately for the Eagles, they have a bye week after the game against the Buccaneers. It will give enough time for both Brown and Smith to get ready for the game against the Cleveland Browns in Week 6.
