The 2023 NFL playoffs will likely have a very different look compared to last season.

That's simply the nature of the NFL, as every year a few teams who missed out on the playoffs a year prior make surges into the postseason the following year.

Some teams who made the playoffs in 2022 have had their squads decimated through free agency and trades, while few others will continue long into the summer.

This means that their team will look brand new heading into the new season, something which could spell trouble in terms of their playoff push for 2023.

NFL teams likely to miss playoffs in 2023

#1 Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens have long been praised as being one of the best-run franchises in the NFL. But they're sure to be unhappy at how the Lamar Jackson situation has played out.

Baltimore used the non-exclusive franchise tag on their QB, meaning if any team wanted Jackson, they would have to pay Jackson a better contract than he would have gotten with the Ravens. This would also come at the cost of two first-round picks, with many teams immediately ruling themselves out. Lamar later requested a trade on Twitter, and the whole situation has turned into a farce.

This could spell trouble for the Ravens, who may lose Jackson in the offseason, or he may miss the entire season. This would leave them with Tyler Huntley and Anthony Brown at QB, neither of whom are proven at this level.

Baltimore don't select until 22nd overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, which is also likely to be too late to grab one of the plethora of first-round graded QBs.

#2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were lucky that the NFC South was so weak in 2022, as they managed to win the division with a record of 8-9.

Despite ending the year with a losing record, Tampa Bay and Tom Brady hosted a playoff game before being swiftly eliminated by the Dallas Cowboys.

Since then, of course, Tom Brady announced his retirement for the second and final time, leaving the Buccaneers with Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield to compete for the QB1 spot.

Going from the greatest quarterback of all-time to a QB battle between Trask and Mayfield is a culture shock, as well as a huge downgrade - something Tampa Bay will do well to recover from.

#3 Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins blew hot and cold throughout the 2022 NFL season, embarking on a three-game win streak, a three-game loss streak, and then a five-game win streak followed by a five-game loss streak.

They squeezed into the playoffs at 9-8 before being eliminated by division rival Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card.

Much of the talk around the Dolphins in 2022 was their quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who seemed to suffer an abnormal amount of concussions, with many fans and analysts alike discussing whether he would ever see an NFL field again.

With question marks surrounding Tua's health likely to continue heading into 2023, and backups Skylar Thompson and Mike White not NFL quality, it could be tricky for Miami to make it back next year.

On top of that, the AFC is clearly a stronger conference at the moment, so getting into the postseason is tougher than ever. With the Bills and the soon-to-be Aaron Rodgers-led Jets in the AFC East, it won't be easy for the Dolphins.
