Can the Seattle Seahawks squeeze something out of this season with Geno Smith as their quarterback? That's the million-dollar question, as coach Mike Macdonald starts his era vying for a playoff spot and competing in the NFC.

There's a clear talent deficit in the division between the Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams. Still, a new defense with new principles without Pete Carroll might end up with a great surprise for the franchise.

Here's a closer look at three players who might not survive the 53-man cuts at the end of the month.

3 cut candidates on Seahawks roster ahead of NFL training camp

#1. Laviska Shenault, WR

One of the biggest disappointments for NFL fans on X/Twitter over the past few years, Shenault has found himself a home in Seattle for this offseason. However, this is a crowded position, and the team might look to go younger at the bottom of the roster.

There are at least five guys who will be ahead of him on the depth chart, and even if the Seahawks keep a sixth receiver, it's unlikely to be Shenault.

#2. D'Wayne Eskridge, WR

He's entering the fourth year of his career, but he has proven himself more effective as a returner than as a receiver, and his off-field problems certainly don't help his case.

Seattle could be looking to go younger at the position for the same reasons as Shenault, and one important thing to point out is that he's in the final year of his rookie deal. The financial problems won't come due to his release, so expect him to be without a contract soon.

#3. Artie Burns, CB

Although he has stayed in the league for a good bit, Burns never turned into the cornerback many expected during his stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After hanging around, it seems like he has found himself a home in Seattle.

Still, the coaching staff has changed, and he didn't make the 53-man roster in 2023. Considering the depth around the position, he might be looking for a new team soon.
