The Washington Commanders are entering a new era.

The offseason saw the franchise bring in a new coach, general manager and starting quarterback in Dan Quinn, Adam Peters and Jayden Daniels, respectively. Furthermore, a strong free agency splurge headlined by linebacker Bobby Wagner has raised spirits and expectations for next season. Notably, the Commanders have the fewest returnees from 2023 on their roster.

The number of players who will not get to wear the burgundy and gold is only set to increase in the coming days with roster cuts ahead of training camp.

#3. Trace McSorley

Trace McSorley found himself on three practice squads (the New England Patriots, Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers) in the 2023 season, as the main quarterback rooms proved too crowded for him to find an opening in. The same situation is expected to play out for him in Landover in 2024.

Jayden Daniels is the obvious starter under center with Marcus Mariota as the clear-cut backup. That leaves Sam Hartman and Jeff Driskel in a heated race to take the third-string position.

#2. Martavis Bryant

Remember when Martavis Bryant was thought to be the perfect complement to Antonio Brown?

He had shown much promise in his first two seasons, notching over 1,200 yards and double-digit touchdowns. But issues surrounding marijuana use got him suspended for it at least twice as a Steeler.

A trade to the then-Oakland Raiders amounted to nothing, as he struggled with injuries and poor play on the field. After yet another lengthy ban due to marijuana consumption, he returned in 2023 with the Dallas Cowboys but did not see the field.

Even after joining a new team in the Commanders, Bryant might have to already abandon all hope of making a comeback with more prolific entities like Olamide Zacchaeus, Luke McCaffrey and Dyami Brown likely to get priority at WR3 behind Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson.

#1. Emmanuel Forbes Jr.

This could be a shocker given his youth and high draft placement (picked No. 16 overall in 2023), but Emmanuel Forbes Jr. is shaping up to be one of the most notorious failures in the history of professional football in Washington DC.

During his rookie season, he was benched and then subsequently demoted to backup after being humiliated by A.J. Brown and D.J. Moore in consecutive weeks. When he did see the field again in 2023, he caused further controversy and damage to his image after being ejected and fined for demolishing Tyler Lockett with a helmet-to-helmet hit.

With the Commanders having rookie Mike Sainristil and free-agent signing Michael Davis onboard, do Dan Quinn and Adam Peters still want him and his struggles around?
