Team Penske driver Joey Logano wins the NASCAR All-Star Race

After multiple setbacks in the current season, Team Penske driver Joey Logano emerged victorious at the NASCAR All-Star race, taking home the $1 million payday. The #22 Ford dominated all but one lap and dethroned the 2023 defending winner Kyle Larson.

The North Wilkesboro Speedway returned for the second All-Star Race since its resurrection in 2023 after a long hiatus since the last Cup Series race in 1996. Logano started as the polesitter and maintained his superiority across the 0.625-mile oval despite multiple cautions being raised.

Moreover, the Connecticut native in P1, his teammate Ryan Blaney in P2, and Denny Hamlin in third were nearly bumper to bumper when the final restart was initiated on Lap 159. Logano quickly gained momentum and led the field, while Blaney got loose and paved the way for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver to climb in second.

Furthermore, Kyle Larson, who started his run from 12th climbed the charts and found himself in third position on Lap 162, challenging the frontrunners Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin. Nonetheless, the #22 Ford Mustang reigned supreme on the NWS and took the victory by a margin of 0.636 seconds over the #11 Toyota Camry.

Joey Logano outlines the "toughest part" after his triumph at the North Wilkesboro Speedway

The current Cup Series season has seen Logano collect a solitary top 5 and three top-10s. However, the top 5 finish could've been a race victory had the Team Penske driver not lost the battle to Hamlin at the Richmond Raceway. Moreover, the #22 Ford driver's next race at Martinsville Speedway ended just outside the fastest five mark in sixth place.

Post his Martinsville run, Joey Logano failed to get himself inside the top-10s for the next four stints. Nonetheless, the 33-year-old led a race-high 199 laps, the most by any driver in an All-Star race, and bagged his second NASCAR All-Star Race win.

After showcasing an unfathomable dominance on the 0.625-mile asphalt, the Team Penske driver weighed in on his maiden 2024 win and unraveled how the first 15 laps were the "toughest part" of his outing and said (via WFMY News 2):

"We did a good job yesterday, in qualifying, being able to get the pole. That helped us just manage the whole race from there today, so, just dominating performance. I just had to get to the first 15 laps of to the run. That was the toughest part for me."
"The [Joe] Gibbs [Racing] car got fired up really really fast, faster than us for sure, and then after 15 laps my car kinda come to me, and at that point we could drive away," the race winner added.

The All-Star Race win won't impact the rankings and Joey Logano maintains his 17th place in the Cup Series standings.
