NASCAR drivers recently discussed who they think is the greatest athlete of all time. Drivers like Joey Logano, Ty Gibbs, and Bubba Wallace chose their favorites from several sports legends in the US.
Michael Jordan was a clear choice for four NASCAR drivers - Bubba Wallace, Tyler Reddick, Ricky Stenhouse, and Daniel Hemric. While Joey Logano found it hard to pick the greatest athlete, and added that both Michael Jordan and Tom Brady were great because they excelled at what they did.
"I don't know. When you look at Jordan, you can look at a Tom Brady in football, and you say, are they great athletes? Well, they're really good at what they did, right? And obviously they're great athletes for that reason. I mean, outside of the obvious, it's kind of hard to say," said Logano.
Ty Gibbs suggested Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods as top choices, but mentioned his favorite athlete to be NFL player Sean Taylor.
"Well, I mean, if you go by statistics, I think Michael Jordan's up there, Tiger Woods is up there. Personal views, I love Sean Taylor, of course," said Gibbs.
Two other NASCAR drivers, Ryan Preece and Josh Bery, chose Tom Brady. While Carson Hocevar picked Novak Djokovic, Noah Gragson chose Travis Pastrana, and Todd Gilliland went with LeBron James.
2024 NASCAR Cup Series' first elimination night in Bristol
Four drivers will be eliminated after the final NASCAR Cup Series race of the first round of the playoffs this weekend at the 0.5-mile Bristol Motor Speedway.
Alex Bowman, who is fourth in the playoff standings, took the pole position for Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops Night Race. He finished a lap in 15.142 seconds (126.720 mph), just 0.003 seconds faster than his teammate William Byron. The Hendrick Motorsport driver has earned 41 playoff points, the highest so far. This is Bowman’s first pole of the season and the fifth of his career.
Bowman will start next to Kyle Larson, with Byron in third place. Martin Truex Jr. will start fourth after running the last 10 races without a top-five finish. Denny Hamlin, who has won three of the last seven Bristol races, will start eighth. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver is currently 13th in the standings and six points below the cut-line to qualify for the next round.
Tyler Reddick, the 23XI Racing driver, leads the series with the most top-five finishes and will start in 15th place while Ty Gibbs will be 13th, and Ryan Blaney 22nd.
The Bass Pro Shops Night Race will begin at 7:30 pm ET on September 21 at the oval short track in Bristol, Tennessee.
