Kyle Busch explained why he would not want to be stuck in an elevator with any fellow NASCAR driver. In an interview with NASCAR insider and The Athletic writer Jeff Gluck, Busch said he knows a lot of useful information he wouldn’t mind sharing except in a dead elevator.
Busch is a 39-year-old professional racing driver under Richard Childress Racing in NASCAR. Since competing against other Cup Series drivers full-time in 2005, the Las Vegas native has amassed 63 race victories. He also won the Cup Series championship in 2015 and 2019.
When asked which driver would he least like to be stuck in an elevator, Busch said:
“All of them.”
The two-time Cup Series champion continued by saying he knew a lot of information people can learn from.
“I have a lot of information that could be useful to a lot of people if they would just spend the time.”
However, Busch didn’t want to share the things he knew with anyone while stuck in an elevator.
“Which I don’t want to spend the time with anybody stuck in an elevator, so they would have a hard time getting me on that," she said.
The question was part of The Athletic’s weekly 12-question interview for race car drivers. Other questions asked to Kyle Busch were his No. 1 bucket list and how much NASCAR coverage he consumes.
Busch’s No. 1 bucket list is to win the Daytona 500, the most prestigious race on the calendar. His best finish at the Daytona International Speedway was in 2019 when he finished behind ex-Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin in second place.
The now-No. 8 RCR Chevrolet Camaro driver also shared that he does not consume any media coverage of NASCAR except what’s on X (formerly Twitter).
Kyle Busch had on-track issues with several NASCAR drivers including Dale Earnhardt Jr.
With high-octane action on track, Kyle Busch had intense battles throughout the years with other NASCAR drivers, including Dale Earnhardt Jr. Perhaps the height of their rivalry was in 2008 when Busch wrecked Earnhardt Jr. at Richmond International Raceway.
In an interview with former NFL tight end Greg Olsen, Earnhardt Jr. recalled his rivalry with Busch in 2008.
“There were some things not good, I wasn't handling it good, he wasn't handling it great, and we went back-and-forth in the media a bunch,” Earnhardt Jr. said. [1:01]
However, the two multiple Cup race winners talked it out and moved on after Kyle Busch had a conversation with Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the latter’s Dale Jr. Download podcast.
“We had a great conversation where Kyle was super honest about how he saw his whole set of events and his perspective of the whole thing, so it was great for me and I think it was good for Kyle,” the former Cup Series driver stated. [1:47]
The 2008 NASCAR season was when Earnhardt Jr. took Busch’s seat at Hendrick Motorsports. Busch moved to Joe Gibbs Racing before landing on his current seat at Richard Children Racing in 2022.
