NASCAR veteran Kyle Busch recently reflected on his time at Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), highlighting the comfort he had managing sponsors before his transition from JGR to Richard Childress Racing (RCR).

Busch joined RCR in 2023 after experiencing sponsorship issues at JGR. They couldn't find a sponsor for Busch after their longtime primary sponsor, M&M/Mars, announced they are leaving NASCAR at the end of the 2022 season.

Speaking with Jeff Gluck of The Athletic, Busch revealed how participating in various activities, such as photo shoots and sponsor obligations, is different at RCR from JGR.

Kyle Busch compared his current situation at RCR, where he has to manage relationships with more than 10 sponsors, to his time at JGR, where he only had two main sponsors, making his responsibilities easier.

Reflecting on comforts at JGR while juggling sponsors at RCR, here’s what Busch said:

“How much you really do behind the scenes, whether it’s photo shoots or media stuff or sponsor stuff. (Points to firesuit covered with sponsor logos.) Sponsor stuff is a lot, especially when you have 15 of them that carry your year to get you through. Which is fine; I get it. I was spoiled for a lot of time at JGR when I only had two — M&M’s and Interstate Batteries.”
“Now having the different partners we have this year with Zone or BetMGM or Morgan & Morgan or Rebel or FICO and everybody who is a part of our deal, you get pulled in a lot of different directions and go do a lot of different things.”

Kyle Busch reveals his No. 1 thing on bucket list

The aforementioned question was a part of The Athletics’ weekly 12-question interview segment for different drivers each week. One of the questions NASCAR insider Jeff Gluck asked to Busch was his No. 1 thing on his bucket list.

Kyle Busch revealed that his No. 1 item on his bucket list is to win the Daytona 500, the most prestigious race of the NASCAR season. He has finished runner-up multiple times at the Daytona 500. He has three out of four crown jewel wins; only the Daytona 500 trophy is missing from his cabinet.

About his bucket list, here’s what Busch said:

“Obviously, winning the Daytona 500 if it relates to our sport and racing. That’s probably high atop the list.”

Kyle Busch had a disappointing 2024 season as he couldn’t qualify for the playoffs and was fighting for his first win of the season. With four races left this season, he would like to extend his streak of consecutive seasons with a victory to 20 years.
