NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon and two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso swapped their helmets during the US Grand Prix weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. Fans of both motorsports were treated to an epic collaboration between the two prominent figures.

With a net worth of $200 million (via Celebrity Net Worth), the four-time Cup Series champion Gordon is among the highest-paid NASCAR personalities. After retiring as a full-time racer, he joined FOX Sports as an analyst and a broadcaster in 2015. After spending about six years with FOX, Gordon eventually became a vice chairman and co-owner at Hendrick Motorsports. Meanwhile, Alonso joined the IndyCar Series with McLaren in 2017.

While the two icons crossed paths in 2018, (Gordon as an interviewer and Alonso as an IndyCar driver) their current meet-up during the US Grand Prix weekend is likely more important. Swapping helmets, Alonso and Gordon shared a light moment for both F1 and NASCAR fans.

Their interaction was shared on X by Aston Martin F1. Here's a look at the post, captioned:

"Pretty embarrassed by it" - Hendrick Motorsports's Jeff Gordon takes responsibility for team's part in Alex Bowman's disqualification after Charlotte race weekend

After what seemed like a historic moment for Hendrick Motorsports, Alex Bowman's disqualification from the ROVAL 400 race turned into disappointment for the team. HMS vice chairman Jeff Gordon took responsibility on the team's part for the missed opportunity at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Bowman managed to grab crucial 20 points by winning Stage 2 of the ROVAL 400 race. This allowed the #48 driver to advance into the Round of 8 with his teammates Kyle Larson, William Byron, and Chase Elliott.

However, during the mandatory post-race inspection by NASCAR, Bowman's race car was found to be underweight, resulting in an immediate disqualification of the Tucson-born racer. After going through the data, HMS decided against challenging the disqualification.

Gordon spoke about the same on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio's recent podcast.

“It’s just one of those things where NASCAR has minimum pre-race and post-race weights and our teams, in order to make the best-performing racecars every weekend for our drivers, we know that we’ve got to stay as close to those minimums as possible, and in this case, the No. 48 car, they just cut it too close and missed it, so that’s on us," Gordon said.
"Pretty embarrassed by it, and pretty disappointing after what was looking like a historic day, and one of the most exciting days we've had," he added.

Bowman's exit from the Round of 8 allowed Team Penske's Joey Logano to advance into the penultimate stage of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series.
