Curtis Blaydes finished Alistair Overeem with brutal elbows from inside of his guard in the final round of their fight and fans are still discussing it years later.

In this MMA Throwback, we travel to June 2018 for UFC 225 in what served as the featured preliminary bout of the card. Blaydes showcased why his nickname is 'Razor' behind the homophone-minded nature of his last name when he violently sliced through the former Strikeforce and DREAM heavyweight champion's forehead.

The former K1 Grand Prix champion and former UFC heavyweight title challenger suffered a nasty, visceral gash with a crimson mask materializing as the referee waved off the action. Blaydes improved to 10-1 as a pro while Overeem fell to 43-17 as an MMA fighter.

Reddit users on the r/ufc subreddit were commenting in droves on a post that shared the bloody footage with fans reflecting back on the heavyweight affair from a bit over six years ago.

@alanhape said:

"To this day this is one of the most horrific TKO's I've seen"

@Senor-Orange stated:

"Saw this live in Chicago. We live in a simulation cause I literally was telling a co worker today about how you could see the blood spray up from our seat."

@spookiboie quipped:

"Damn he turned his forehead into spaghetti"

Curtis Blaydes and his octagon path since that night

Curtis Blaydes was already a well-regarded heavyweight prior to the Overeem win but the nature of the win over that kind of opponent showed his skills and he has continued to prove his skill since that day.

The 33-year-old did admittedly lose his next fight to the lone man who had bested him in MMA previously, Francis Ngannou, but he would string together a four fight win streak thereafter. There was an impressive finish of former UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos during that stretch.

After being finished by Derrick Lewis, Blaydes would embark on another winning streak when he got three straight victories capped off by a quick win over Tom Aspinall due to an injury.

'Razor' did have a setback against Sergei Pavlovich but rebounded with a finish over Jailton Almeida at UFC 299 in March via hammerfists in the second round.

The Illinois native is readying for another career rematch this weekend and this time a belt is on the line. Curtis Blaydes will collide with interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall with the strap on the line in the co-main event of UFC 304 on July 27 from Manchester, England.
