UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili has engaged in a heated war of words with fellow contender Umar Nurmagomedov, accusing the Dagestani of being a "liar" and disrespecting him.

The feud began after Nurmagomedov publicly stated that Dvalishvili was avoiding a fight with him and instead preferred to rematch with Sean O'Malley. Dvalishvili, however, insists that he has always been willing to fight Nurmagomedov.

Dvalishvili, who recently defeated O'Malley to win the bantamweight title, vehemently denied these allegations. In a lengthy post, the bantamweight champ wrote:

"Umar Now not only are you disrespectful , you are a liar. If UFC offered you to fight with me 2 times - show the fans the contract and the dates. They offered me to fight you right after I beat Petr Yan with a broken hand in 6 weeks. I accepted the fight verbally even thought i was no. 1 contender and you were no. 13 rank and even with broken hand. Ultimately the doctor said no to this and I had surgery. "

He further wrote:

"So lets see the contract of the second offering??!!! So if the UFC is gifting you the title defense - wtf are you talking trash and with disrespect? I'm done with you now because you keep lying - you lost my respect as a man and a martial artist. I will wait to hear from the UFC."

Merab Dvalishvili opens up on actual reason behind calling out Sean O'Malley for rematch

Merab Dvalishvili has clarified his decision to call out Sean O'Malley for a rematch, revealing that it was O'Malley himself who initiated the idea.

In another social media post, Dvalishvili shared that O'Malley had reached out to him on social media, expressing his belief that he won their previous encounter at UFC 306 and requesting a rematch. Dvalishvili agreed to the fight, proposing a quick turnaround at UFC 309 in New York City:

“O’Malley DM’d me this past Tuesday – Push for the rematch. He is so sure he won the fight that I wanna show him I will beat him again and again. I was gonna give him a quick turnaround in NY. I’m not ducking Umar – after the rematch I will fight him or anyone else UFC puts in front of me."

Dvalishvili also clarified that he is not ducking a potential fight with Umar Nurmagomedov, another rising contender in the bantamweight division. He stated that he is willing to face Nurmagomedov or any other opponent the UFC would put in front of him after the rematch with O'Malley:

"WTF? Do you guys read? Who the f*** is ducking Umar?? O'Malley asked for rematch - I said let's go quick - Then I will fight whoever the UFC wants up next !"
