UFC welterweight "prays to the MMA gods" for UFC 307 showdown with Daniel Cormier to settle simmering dispute

Former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and UFC welterweight Joaquin Buckley have, in the recent past, had a lot of things to say to each other. Things turned sour between them when Buckley called out Irish superstar Conor McGregor in his post-fight interview following his win over Nursulton Ruziboev.

Cormier was not pleased with the callout as he believed 'New Mansa' had wasted an opportunity. This led to the two individuals hurling insults at each other on social media.

Buckley is now scheduled to fight MMA veteran Stephen Thompson at UFC 307, which takes place on Oct. 5, 2024. The 30-year-old recently did an interview with MMA Fighting where he shared that he was hoping to run into Cormier at UFC 307 in an attempt to sort things out between them. 'New Mansa' said:

"I've been praying to the MMA gods that I run into 'DC'... I'm a fan of Daniel Cormier and all the things he has done in his MMA career. If you're talking about from Strikeforce to coming into the UFC and dominating and end up winning two straps in the UFC, because of how difficult that is and holding them simultaneously at one time, I've got to respect it. But at the end of the day, it's like as fighters, I believe that for me, the thigns that I'm trying to do, I feel like 'DC' could have helped me with trying to go where I'm trying to go instead of trying to diminish me or break me down."

Daniel Cormier speaks on Dricus du Plessis' UFC future

Dricus du Plessis recently beat Israel Adesanya in the main event of UFC 305. While the fight was competitive, the South African got 'The Last Stylebender's' back and choked him out in the fourth round.

On the Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast, UFC commentator Daniel Cormier spoke about du Plessis and shared what could be next for the South African in the UFC. He said:

"DDP already said 'It doesn't have to be at [185 pounds], I'm not giving you an excuse, I'll come to 205 [pounds] and fight you.' And after watching [du Plessis], I don't know that he don't do well against Alex because of his wrestling and his ability to strike."
