Democratic party representative Kamala Harris named Minnesota governor Tim Walz as her running mate with just three months remaining until the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Just three days later, Colby Covington released a video on social media questioning Walz's credentials.

The former interim champion is a notoriously outspoken Republican who supports Donald Trump and has criticized all Democratic candidates, including Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. Covington called attention to the current controversy surrounding Walz's military resume, accusing the 60-year-old of "abandoning his brothers in arms."

Many fans were highly critical of his video. He has lost a significant amount of his fanbase after his lackluster defeat to Leon Edwards at UFC 296. Fans brought up a recent clip of Trump deeming Khabib Nurmagomedov his favorite UFC fighter, a title Covington previously gave to himself.

One fan commented:

Colby Covington's next UFC fight

As fans opposed Colby Covington's critical video about Tim Walz, many accused 'Chaos' of caring more about politics than he does about his fighting career in 2024. Eight months into the calendar year, the 36-year-old has not made an appearance, last losing a one-sided decision to Leon Edwards at UFC 296.

Since challenging Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight title in 2019, Covington has fought just five times in the last five years. He has alternated wins and losses, with each win putting him back into the title picture despite how unwarranted fans believe it to be.

Since losing to Edwards, Covington has not had a fight booked, nor has he been close to returning to the octagon. The former interim champion called for a fight with Stephen Thompson on the night of his third title loss but could not get any momentum behind that callout and has since been linked to Ian Machado Garry, a potential matchup that has also lost steam.

In interviews since his last fight, Covington claims he wants a path back to the title but has not mentioned any discussions he has had with the UFC regarding his next bout.
