A UFC light heavyweight clash between former title challengers Anthony Smith and Dominick Reyes is reportedly in the works for UFC 310. The UFC's final pay-per-view event of the year, which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, is scheduled for Dec. 14.

Smith is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Roman Dolidze at UFC 303 in June. Although he secured a first-round submission victory over Vitor Petrino at UFC 301 in May, 'Lionheart' has struggled to maintain his form in recent times, suffering four defeats in his last six bouts. He currently holds a UFC record of 13-10.
Meanwhile, Reyes marked his comeback to the octagon in June at UFC Louisville with a dominant first-round finish of Dustin Jacoby, following a 19-month hiatus. This victory marked Reyes' first win in nearly five years, with his last triumph dating back to October 2019, when he stopped Chris Weidman in the main event of UFC Boston. He's currently 7-4 in the UFC.
When Anthony Smith was one decision away from the UFC light heavyweight title but decided against it
Anthony Smith challenged then-UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in his only title fight at UFC 235 in March 2019.
Although 'Lionheart' was largely dominated throughout the fight, a pivotal moment occurred in the fourth round when Jones delivered an illegal knee to Smith’s head while he was grounded. The referee deemed the strike intentional.
Consequently, Smith was given a few minutes to recover and had the option to stop the fight, which would have crowned him the new light heavyweight champion by disqualification. However, Smith chose to keep fighting. The referee penalized 'Bones' by deducting two points for the illegal strike in that round, but Jones ultimately secured the victory by unanimous decision.
