A UFC vet recently dissected whether Khalil Rountree Jr.'s spirited battle against Alex Pereira was worth it. The light heavyweight title fight stole the show last Saturday, however, the challenger came out absorbing significant damage.
Despite being dropped, 'Poatan' regrouped and went on to bloody the challenger with his powerful jabs and then finished him during an exchange against the fence in the fourth round. It was a commendable performance by Rountree Jr. as he gained many new fans due to his approach and how he fought Pereira.
UFC vet Max Griffin, on the other hand, weighed in on the light heavyweight title clash and noted that perhaps 'The War Horse' let his ego get the better of him. Griffin tweeted that he believes Rountree Jr. could have fought more tactically and mentioned that the damage absorbed could have a negative impact on his career:
"After the fight, [Rountree Jr.] came out brutalized and may never be the same again. He opted to fight a kickboxing match with small gloves instead of engaging in an MMA fight. It's all ego. Ego can be your enemy. Khalil wanted to prove he was the better striker and he came up short."

Max Griffin claims he approaches fighting differently than Khalil Rountree Jr. did against Alex Pereira
Entertaining main event fights like Alex Pereira vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. at UFC 307 are looked back on fondly by fans, however, Max Griffin claimed that it's not the proper approach.
During his aforementioned assessment of Pereira vs. Rountree Jr., Griffin mentioned that 'The War Horse' will have to live with the consequences of coming up short in his title fight due to his approach to the fight:
"At the end of the day, that's a choice he made. He will have to live with that. I'm personally here to win. I've been taught to take the path of least resistance. To exploit the weaknesses of my opponent and get the job done."
